In The Mood was hot and electric blue
lights up the stage at the Avenue Ballroom
Bop-jump-jivin' on the old dance floor,
all the boys are in Europe, poor lonely little farmer's daughters.

Well it's Saturday night at the electric Avenue Ballroom
the band is cookin' and the cats are swingin' tonight
like the Silvertone Seven gonna get my kicks rockin' this bar-room
'til I rock that Caddy, swing low sweet Hydra-Glide.

Long tall Moore played the saxophone
and kept his eye on a little girl in the corner
Bopper on stand-up, Thumper on traps, banjo, clarinet
Stride and Clyde on the pianos.

Well it's Saturday night at the electric Avenue Ballroom
the band is cookin' and the cats are swingin' tonight
like the Silvertone Seven gonna get my kicks rockin' this bar-room
'til I rock that Caddy, swing low sweet Hydra-Glide.

Midnight feels right, smokin' that groove
Go-cat-go, aint enough time to get to know her
the Fleetwood's packed up, bass on top, flat-top, black-top
runnin' like prairie horses...to another,
Saturday night at the electric Avenue Ballroom.

I penned this one for some friends of mine whos father/grandfather/great grandfather was a big band leader named Kennett Moore from Alberta Canada. He had a number of groups during the 1930s, 40s and 50s including the Kennett Moore Orchestra and The Silvertone Seven. "Long Tall Moore" also ran a dance hall in Calgary called the Avenue Ballroom.

Apparently they travelled from show to show in a Cadillac Fleetwood with the standup bass lashed to the roof of the car. Sounds like a good time. - PM
